Easter Weekend!

Happy Easter!!

One of my favorite holidays- today is the day we are reminded that our Savior died for all our sins to save us.  Quite a humbling though….and the main reason why Easter is my favorite holiday- and because of the fashion, of course. If only I could fit into my cute seersucker dresses and swim suits.  Oh well, maybe next year- for the time being I’ll keep eating the tasty Easter candy.

I had quite an exciting mail day the other day.  Both my baby shower and Jr. League invitation came in the mail!!

I love getting mail!

In other exciting news, Grandma Lisa has been showering Luke with gifts galore! He is going to be the best dressed little man thanks to her!  During some spring cleaning, Lisa found some of Scott's baby outfits- i mean, of course, what kind of mother doesn't save e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.....So we're going to have a blast dressing Luke up in them and comparing with old pictures of Scott.  All of the items are hand made by her!  (pictures to come- they are currently at the dry cleaners).

Sweet little outfits and swaddle blanket
Luke's 1st Bama outfit along with some classics
Also, another huge THANKS to Uncle Jim & Aunt Cyndy for the Pack-n-Play and to Grandma Karen and Papa for the car seat!!! Its kinda funny to think that about year ago our house was flooded with wedding gifts- nows its baby stuff!! I love it! I wouldn't have it any other way!!

The Pack-n-Play with more gadgets then a car

The cowboy car seat!  All its missing is a bullet proof car.

98 days until Luke's due date!  Its almost here!  Luke has no idea right now how loved he is...i'm sure all he cares about is when he'll get more Easter candy.  We are absolutely  humbled by the love and support we have received from family members!!  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend enjoying Easter and its meaning.  Can’t wait to go to church, brunch with the family, and play with William!

I leave everyone with a picture of William and his cousin, Olivia, showing him how to drive a real barbie car!

Listening Skills

10 things I Wish I Had Listened to When Someone Told Me

1.      You’r skirt is too short. I use to blame it on my long legs-that was a lie.  The attention young women get from wearing short skirts is not the attention you want-this, I now know.

2.      You’re going to miss them when they’re gone.  My mother use to say this about my grandparents.  Of course, I love them, but going to North Dakota to visit them wasn’t my idea of a fun summer vacation at 13 years old.  While I loved visiting my grandparents, I always wondered why they didn’t live someplace cooler, like the beach or California- anywhere but North Dakota.  I would do just about anything now to visit them one more time- to help them pick carrots, to make milk shakes, anything to be around them just one more time.

3.      College will be the best 4 years of your life.  I was first told this one day at church- I don’t know how I can remember that-but I didn’t believe the guy.  All I could think about was getting recs for sorority rush and all the reading I’ll have to do for class.  He was right. They were the best four years of my life. Although, I know my most happy years are ahead of me!

4.      Throughout your life, you’ll have 4-6 good friends.  Why limit yourself to only 6 friends?  That’s crazy.  The more the merrier.  I’ve quickly learned that out of the +1,000 friends I have on facebook, I can count on one hand the people who I know will be in my life in 10 years.  Not saying the other 995 people aren’t friends- just not the ones you call up the second you find out you won the lottery! Its about quality, not quantity.

5.      Don’t go to the tanning bed.  I’ve heard this one liner about a million times.  Now I know…don’t go to the tanning bed. Ever.  Don't even lay out- get a spay tan if you care that much. You’ll thank me when you look 10 years younger than everyone else at your 20 year high school reunion.

6.      Chlorine fixes everything.  Mom use to throw me and my sister into the pool whenever we had a cold- rather than letting us stay home and sleep/watch Carson Daly on MTV’s TRL.  Not sure if it was the chlorine that made us feel better or if it was just getting up and moving- either way, she was right.

7.      Buy cell phone insurance.  This one is for my sweet husband who told me to buy it.  Of course, I refused.  Now I’m stuck with a beat up phone with a touch screen that doesn’t work.

8.      You’re enough.  People are mean.  People love train wrecks.  They will tell you that you’re not tall enough, skinny enough, tan enough….  Don’t listen to them.  They’re wrong.

9.      Don’t gossip.  As much as I love gossiping, it’s a waste of time.  Mind your own business- even if someone else business is more entertaining.

10.  Be Present.  Life is beautiful- but its short.  The most wonderful gift you could give someone is your time.  Be present- give whatever you’re working on 110% of your attention and your best effort- you never know the impression you can leave on someone until its too late.

Mischievous and pampered

I’m not that much of a reader.  Never have been, never will be.  I believe it dates back to how hard it was for me to learn because of dyslexia.  So when my uncle, Jim, sent me a subscription of The Week a couple years ago, that basically sums of all news in one little short magazine, I’m all over it.  My favorite part of the magazine is The Last Word, which is a shot story printed on the last two pages.  I usually flip to end to read that first, then the real estate section, then I start at the beginning.

Anyway, this week, The Last Word is about birth order.  It says that first-born people have a leg up on all the other siblings.  More first-borns are scientists, Nobel Prize Winners and surgeons.  Of the 23 American astronauts, 21 were firstborns (with the other two being only children).  It goes on to say that, last-borns are “charming, affectionate, mischievous, pampered, temperamental, and irresponsible”.

In this article, it talks about how second-born kids are always trying to beat the firstborn kid.  Since I’m both a 2nd born and a last born, I couldn’t help but think about when Ann and I were competing against each other in the 200 butterfly at some swim meet in Nashville.  It was the finals and we were placed right next to each other- she was in lane 5 and I was in lane 6. We were neck and neck up until the 150 mark and all of a sudden, she kicked it into high gear.  Of course, I noticed and tried to keep up.  She out-touched me by a few hundredths of a second.  I can’t remember the exact time- but I remember how I felt.  I quickly got out of the pool, ripped off my swim cap, threw down my goggles, and said a few adult words at her.  So I guess the article is right. Hahaha.

It also made me think of Luke and how he’ll have a leg up on his younger brother or sister.  I hope he lets his little bro/sis beat him every once in awhile- you know, just to be nice.  Maybe this is why I always favor the baby of the family…because the baby always needs a little help-an extra push.  And hey, you never know, Luke sister or brother might be the 1st second-born American astronaut- although I’m pretty positive she’ll/he’ll be dyslexic- genetics always win.

Another 3-day weekend!

Happy Weekend Everyone!!

This week was full of fun…well kind of- If work didn’t get in the way.  On Monday we had a team meeting.  I won a chia pet- the kind that you water and grass grows for hair…super cool!  Actually, Paul and I traded, he got food. Of course the preggers girl wants the food more than a chia pet.  Sadly, the chia pet was the highlight of the week- now you know what we’re dealing with.

On Friday was my 22-week appointment.  Thankfully everything still looks good with Baby Luke.  He had the hiccups when the doctor did the Doppler.  I couldn’t feel them, but its pretty cute to listen to.   He is measuring as if he was a week older- which makes me thing he’ll come a bit early…if we’re lucky!

Scott is out enjoying this beautiful weather at Oak Mountain State Park with the boys.  This is his first round of the season…we’ll see how many balls he lost. Haha.  I took Nellie to the park 3 days in a row, while attempting to run the loop.  It’s more of a jog/waddle. I keep wondering if I look preggers or if I look like a girl with a big belly.  Either way, I have a new appreciation for the moms that run during the entire pregnancy.  I mean, how do they do it?  When I run, my belly goes up and down and all I can think about is Luke bumping his head on my rib bone. (Is that even possible?) I also have to flex my abs the entire time to keep my posture normal.  Its hard work!!

Anyway, hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the first glimpse of spring!  I leave you with a picture of William at his Bday party last weekend, playing in the bounce house.

passing the time

Its Friday!!  Another week done!  I’ll be starting 22 weeks soon and feel like I’m 42 weeks.  I can’t imagine getting any bigger, although I know its going to happen.  So I’m just sittin’ here, watching time pass slowly by.  I’ve got a few countdowns going on in my head.  Obviously the baby countdown, but I also have one for when the curtains come in, when I get to go visit Uncle Jim, my baby shower, and Scott’s work trip to Cali.

One of the best ways to pass the time is needlepointing.  This week I finished needlepointing our Christmas stocking cuffs.  It took me about 2 months to do both.  I’ll be starting Lukes soon, which made me think about how amazing Christmas is going to be this year with a baby!!

Chrismtas Stocking Cuffs!

Speaking of baby, our dear friends Katie & David Reeves welcomed baby #2 this week, Jackson (Jack) Baker.  Scott visited them at the hospital yesterday and I’ll get to see them this weekend!!

I’ve been working at home these last two days- I consider myself very lucky to have a manager that allows us to work at home.  Its nearly impossible for me to get comfortable at work-next week I’m bring a pillow and heating pad for my back!!  While working at home I’m quickly figured out that there is no way I could be a stay-at-home mom.  I know Luke will keep me busy…but I get cabin fever way too quickly- and plus- you can only watch The Today Show so many times until you’re sick of listening to fashion, vacations, and how to lose weight.

Next week the fancy dog park opens up down the street!! Their website shows that each dog must pass a ‘temperament test’.  Scott and I are nervous that Nellie won’t pass--she plays rough and like to growl and bark.

Anyway, hope everyone had a wonderful week!! Get excited- its suppose to snow this weekend!!
